Local cattle rancher Dick Pace discussed “Cattle Ranching in Wayne County” on July 14, 2012.

Cattle ranching in Wayne County dates back to the late 1880s.

Dick used a map to show the locations of the original family ranches and dairies on Fishlake, Boulder and Thousand Lakes mountains.

He also explored the origins of the families and how they were related and shared the history of how many of the grazing lands became public lands.

Dick’s wife Becky read an article about early ranching in the Henry Mountains and also shared family stories about ranching.

Dick concluded with a slide show illustrating today’s ranching techniques and the areas where his cattle graze.
